Cat House, Kuching

Our client, Catherine wanted to extend their living space to allow a play area for 2 boisterous children with a small space for her work. She and her doctor husband live in a semidetached house in Kuching’s outskirt instead of extending their home, we chose to design a stand-alone ‘play house’ tucked neatly within the building setback.

Since this space was for young people, we thought that its design and construction can be used to teach the end-users about climate, materials, and nature.

The result is a light steel structure with a loft space for Cat’s office; indoor and outdoor play areas; a large roof to shade and collect rain water which is stored in a pond for rearing small fishes.
